Once you feel confident with a champ, you can take it to the Ranked. If anything, Unranked is the most important aspect of the Ranked queue for a game like this, because it filters out those who don't care about rank (and cause more chaos for those striving to gain MMR), and gives those who care about rank a place to actually practice. You don't have to play your champ against AI or risk your rating, you can play against people and practice before taking it to Ranked. Want to climb from Grade 8 or 9 up to 11 or 12? You're going to have to ball outrageous a lot, then start performing as expected for a lot of games.ġ. Once your performance settles down, your Deviation will decrease and you'll notice you don't drop back to where you were before. If you start the game having never played and whiff your placements, then start to get a feel for it over the course of 100 games and go on big win streaks, the system isn't going to know what to do with you. Odds are, my Deviation isn't very high, so my climb is more steady because as I improve, I'm improving slowly (getting better at awareness of defensive CDs for opponents, making bigger plays, etc.). My performance isn't swingy, so I'm winning some fights against higher ranks that the game thinks I shouldn't be winning, then otherwise playing about how it expects. If you know how the game feels and generally understand mechanics, but your muscle memory is all wrong and your inclination is to spam and accidentally trigger Counters an such, then Grade 9 is about where you belong.

I'd played many an hour of BLC long ago, so I generally have the idea. The thing is, Placement dropped me in around 2200 MMR to begin with, if I recall. So effectively, in 21 games, going 12-9, I gained 189 MMR. So I really only won 5 out of my 8 games as Freya, and the 5-3 netted me another +65 MMR. It says 9-3, but those 4 games (2 with Oldur, 2 with Pearl) were all against AI to get my Support/South chests. So in fact, I went 7-6, and gained 124 MMR.īy Sept 30th, last night, I ended at 2491. I was testing the waters, but I just don't have it in me to play Support. In fact, that's 7-6, because the win with Sirius was against AI. That's a +124 difference, with an 8-6 record. Scope out the Recent Sessions, though.īy Sept 29th, I was at 2426 MMR. I'm not posting this as a "look how good I am", because I'm pretty sure Grade 9 is about as average as it gets, or on the left-hand down-swing of the bell curve. Have a good one, people.Īlso, for an additional data point, here's my masterbattlerite profile:

I just don't think a smaller indie title on Steam should require more dedication than professional Starcraft. Keep the discussion on how winning 30 games in a row for 200 MMR is perfectly fair and engaging if you wanna.

This game is great fun, but very few people can afford to tackle it like it's a second full time no pay job.Įdit: After seeing just the amount of time and effort I'd have to put into this to actually climb, I've decided it's honestly not worth it. Right now, a rank can easily go past 100 matches depending on your luck and performance. Winning somewhere in the 50-70 range and losing somewhere in the 30-60 does wonders for Street Fighter's longevity and their playerbase's dedication.Ī rank should be somewhere in the 10-20 matches range. It's much easier to just deal with your seventh loss in a row against ranks 12+ with an In Placement teammate when you're not gonna lose another 30 points that you'll painfully regain over 6 matches. This plan would kill two birds with one stone and greatly diminish toxicity too. In the long run, it's always better to have a happy playerbase than one that's constantly frustrated. Shamelessly reward good performance, specially against those of higher rank, and don't punish bad performance too hard. The ranking system should play out more like a fighting game. This does not play to some of the game's strengths, those being quick rounds and small numbers.īecause we're small teams, keeping a winrate that reflects your skill is somewhat easier than in say, League of Legends. The matchmaking is distinctly MOBA-like, going for thousands upon thousands of matches.

This is a MOBA game, but it's a smaller one. Right now, climbing a rank is a tall order.
